Five players representing the SEC, Big Ten, and Pac 12 conferences were named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for their performances in Week 4 of the college football season. Among those recognized was Utah State junior running back and return specialist Javen Jacobs.
The National College Football Awards Association named Dierre Hill, Jr., a sophomore running back and return specialist for Oregon, as the Paul Hornung Award Player-of-the-Week. Hill recorded 191 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns during Oregon's 41-27 victory over USC at the Coliseum. His performance included 15 carries, three rushing first downs, three receiving first downs, and one 23-yard kickoff return.
Other players on the honor roll include Alabama junior wide receiver and return specialist Ryan Coleman-Williams, who recorded 111 all-purpose yards and two scores during a 49-18 win over South Carolina. UCLA senior running back and return specialist Wayne Knight, who also plays as a Wildcat quarterback, totaled 153 all-purpose yards and one score in a 54-3 win over Maryland. Tennessee senior defensive back and return specialist Qua Moss recorded five total tackles and a 57-yard punt return for a touchdown during a 20-17 loss to Texas.
Javen Jacobs of Utah State earned honor roll recognition after totaling 99 all-purpose yards and a touchdown in a 21-10 home win against Troy. The junior accounted for four first downs from scrimmage, including two on scoring drives, and scored on a six-yard run in the third quarter.
The Paul Hornung Award was launched by the Louisville Sports Commission in 2010 to honor its namesake and promote the performances of versatile college football players. A national selection committee consisting of 18 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for finalists and the winner, with fan voting provided by Texas Roadhouse.
