According to a October 20, 2026 statement, pmtbox has announced that Steven Boal has joined the company's board of directors. Boal, the founder of Quotient Technology and CashStar, will bring expertise in digital commerce and public listings to the enterprise platform based in Orem, Utah.
Boal founded Quotient Technology, formerly known as Coupons.com, in 1998 and served as CEO and board chair for 24 years, including the company's listing on the New York Stock Exchange. He also founded and chaired the digital gifting company CashStar, which was acquired by Blackhawk Network in 2017.
Boal joins existing board members Wayne Hamilton, the pmtbox founder, and Alex Bean, a founding partner at Tandem Ventures. These additions followed a $15 million seed round closed in April, which was reported to be the largest seed raise in Utah in the past decade.
The pmtbox platform unifies payments, risk, and data for merchants to provide visibility into transaction economics. Pete Kledaras, pmtbox co-founder and CTO, noted that Boal previously worked with him at CashStar, where the company served as the risk-bearing merchant of record for 350 global retailers.
Boal stated that many merchants do not realize how fraud, chargebacks, and disputes impact conversion rates and total costs. He joined the board to assist the company as it moves further into the enterprise sector.
In addition to his work with pmtbox, Boal serves as CEO and board chair of Salt Lake City-based Matia Mobility. The company produces the Tek RMD M1, a mobility platform sold in 23 countries and approved for purchase through Medicare, the VA, and private insurance. His previous professional experience includes serving as a vice president and head of global emerging markets at J.P. Morgan.
pmtbox operates as a unified commerce platform designed to consolidate payments and risk intelligence. The company aims to eliminate fragmentation from legacy point solutions to give operators control over their data and economics.
