The 15th biennial Watson Conference on Rhetoric and Composition is scheduled to take place from November 5th to November 7th in downtown Louisville, Kentucky.
This signature event for the discipline focuses on collaboration and community, providing a space for participants to engage in conversation and develop scholarly resources.
The conference features five two-day workshops. Topics include AI and writing across the curriculum, leadership in writing centers, rhetorical studies regarding history and materiality, rhetorics, embodiments, and environments, and engaging the senses in rhetorical history.
A workshop titled Leading From Our Expertise: Writing Studies and Institutional AI Decision-Making is among the scheduled sessions. Other sessions include Making Our Work Visible: Writing Center Administrators as Campus Leaders and Panhistoriography Revisited: The Act and Art of Writing Capacious Histories.
A Midsouth CCCC Dechartering Ideation Session is scheduled to take place before the Watson Conference on Thursday, November 5th. The meetup will be held at the 21C Hotel and Museum and is open to faculty, students, and staff.
The session aims to build a regional needs assessment for Writing Studies in the Midsouth region and develop a list of priorities to be shared with the WAC Clearinghouse.
The Watson Conference was established following a 1995 gift from Dr. Thomas R. Watson to the University of Louisville English Department. The endowment supports the conference and a visiting scholar program.
Past conferences have resulted in publications such as Writers: Craft & Context and Mobility Work in Composition, published by Utah State University Press.
