The BYU Men’s Cross Country program is heading to Wisconsin to compete in the Nuttycombe Invitational for the fifth consecutive year, according to a Oct. 6 statement. The event is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9, at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course.
The competition features a highly competitive national field that includes 17 of the top 25 teams from the USTFCCCA Coaches’ Poll. This race serves as an opportunity for BYU to face Big 12 competitors, including No. 2 Iowa State and No. 6 Colorado. The Nuttycombe Invitational will be followed by the Big 12 championship race.
BYU enters the meet undefeated, including a recent team victory at the John McNichols Invitational. The Cougars' scorers from that victory—Tayvon Kitchen, Noah Jenkins, James Corrigan, Dalton Mortensen, and Isaac Hedengren—have all previously run on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. Kitchen, the Cougars' low stick, recently secured a third-place finish at the McNichols race.
Kitchen will compete against runners Kelvin Cheruiyot of Florida and Elsingi Kipruto of Louisville, both of whom placed ahead of him in the McNichols race. Additionally, Corrigan and Hedengren are entering their second race of the year after both recording top-20 finishes in their season debuts. Jenkins and Mortensen have also scored in both of the team's victories so far this season.
The Nuttycombe Invitational races are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9, with the A Race at 10:10 a.m. MDT and the B Race at 11:30 a.m. MDT. Live streaming will be available via RunnerSpace+, while live results are provided by Primetime Timing.
