No. 15 BYU defeated the Arizona Wildcats 28-17 on Saturday afternoon at LaVell Edwards Stadium, according to a September 12 report. The victory marked the Cougars’ first Big 12 win of the 2026 season and moved the team to a 2-0 record.
Quarterback Bear Bachmeier led the offense with 217 passing yards and three touchdowns on 16 completions. Bachmeier also recorded 37 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries. Kyler Kasper contributed two touchdown receptions, including his first career touchdown, and totaled 51 receiving yards.
Reggie Frischknecht also scored his first career touchdown on a 25-yard pass from Bachmeier. Running back LJ Martin led the BYU run game with 98 yards on 20 carries, becoming the ninth Cougar to surpass 500 career carries.
Defensively, Tausili Akana recorded 2.5 sacks against Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita. Cannon DeVries led the team with nine tackles. After allowing 240 yards in the first half, the BYU defense held Arizona to just 87 yards in the second half, which included -2 rushing yards.
BYU's victory marks its sixth consecutive win against the Wildcats. The Cougars are scheduled to travel to Fort Collins, Colo., to play the Colorado State Rams on Sept. 19.
