Sanpete County Commissioners announced a proposed property tax increase for 2027 in a statement published October 30, 2026.
The proposed increase is intended to fund county-wide pay raises for elected officials and employees.
The proposed tax increase is designed to bring county pay up to a level that allows the county to retain trained employees and compete with the private sector as well as neighboring cities, counties, and municipal entities.
Officials stated the increase is not due to a budget shortfall or spending for new programs, but rather the direct cost of the proposed pay raises.
