The Black Canyon Fire has reached 2,111 acres with no containment reported as of August 5, 2026. The fire, which originated from lightning on July 30, is exhibiting intense behavior, including quick runs through tree tops and rapid uphill movement.
A community meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 6 p.m. at The Old Firehouse Community Center, located at 80 N. Main, Orangeville UT. Local, federal, and state representatives will attend to provide information regarding wildfire suppression efforts, weather conditions, anticipated fire behavior, and evacuation updates. Currently, 183 personnel are working on the fire. Crews are working to go direct on the fire edge and conducting road preparations along Lowry and Reeder Ridge Road. In the Reeder Subdivision, local structural fire engines are working to reduce fuels and improve defensible space, while dozers construct a protective fire line along the north and northeast sides of the subdivision to protect homes.
The Emery County Sheriff’s Office has maintained a GO evacuation order for the Reeder Subdivision. Residents are advised to follow all evacuation instructions and stay informed through official sources.
Weather conditions, including low humidity and forecasted winds, are expected to drive significant fire growth. Forecasts indicate that winds may shift to the west, causing spotting and potential impacts to the Joes Valley area, the community of Reeder, and forest campground infrastructure. High tension powerlines to the northeast of the fire may also be impacted.
The Manti-La Sal National Forest has issued an updated temporary closure (Forest Order #04-10-26-02-02) for portions of the Ferron Ranger District. This expanded closure includes Spring City Canyon Road (FS Road 0036), FS Road 0014 (Millers Flat), and Potters Pond Campground.
