Governor Cox has declared a state of emergency in Beaver, Piute, and Sevier counties as communities respond to devastating wildfires and dangerous flooding. The declaration is intended to help the state continue providing resources to protect lives and property and support local response and recovery efforts.
The state of emergency also serves to prepare for additional flooding anticipated throughout the summer. Governor Cox expressed sympathy for those affected, including those grieving the loss of Provo Fire Captain Spencer Long, his wife Katrina, and three of their children.
Officials advise the public to heed local warnings, avoid flooded roads, and stay away from burn scar areas during storms, noting that flooding can become deadly in moments.
The declaration is part of the state's ongoing effort to support local communities facing these environmental challenges.
