Three new statues depicting the life and ministry of Jesus Christ were unveiled at Temple Square as the historic renovation of the Salt Lake Temple entered its final stages. On July 15 and 16, crews installed sculptures titled Jesus Christ with the Woman at the Well, Jesus Christ and Mary at the Tomb, and Jesus Christ Ordains Apostles.
In the coming weeks, two additional statues, Jesus Christ With Mary and Martha and Jesus Christ Blessing the Children, will be added to the site. These additions bring the total number of newly installed sculptures at Temple Square to 12, joining the recently restored Seagull Monument and the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthood statues.
These artworks are situated among newly restored gardens, gathering spaces, and the Temple Square Visitors Center. The renovated space is intended to invite people of all backgrounds to learn about Jesus Christ and find moments of peace and reflection.
The Salt Lake Temple, which originally took 40 years to complete following its 1853 construction start, will host only its second open house in its 134-year history. This renovation allows the public to experience the interior of the temple before it is rededicated.
Reservations for the Salt Lake Temple Celebration are scheduled to open September 1, 2026. Tours will be available from April 5 through October 1, 2027, allowing guests to explore the renovated temple, gardens, exhibits, and music.
