The State Forester has issued a Stage 2 Fire Restriction Order for Cache County. This decision follows assessments of current and forecasted weather conditions alongside extremely dry vegetation in the area.
Reason for new fire restrictions
According to Order # BRCLO2648, these measures are being implemented to prevent the ignition of forest and rangeland fires.
Prohibited campfire and stove activities
Under the Stage 2 restrictions, several activities are prohibited in Cache. This includes building, maintaining, attending, or using any campfire or stove fire. These prohibitions extend to charcoal grills, barbecues, coal and wood burning stoves, and tent stoves, even when used at homes or within developed camping and picnic grounds.
Allowed exceptions for certain devices
Exceptions for certain devices include those using pellets, pressurized liquid, or gas, such as stoves, grills, or lanterns, provided they include shutoff valves and are used at least three feet away from flammable materials like pine needles or grasses.
List of other prohibited activities
Other prohibited activities under the order include:
Smoking, unless inside an enclosed vehicle, trailer, building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area paved or free from dry vegetation.
The use of fireworks, tracer ammunition, or pyrotechnic devices, including exploding targets.
Cutting, welding, or grinding metal in areas containing dry vegetation.
Operating ATVs, motorcycles, chainsaws, or other small internal combustion engines without a working and approved spark arrestor.
Exemptions from the fire order
The restrictions apply to everyone except on-duty firefighters in the performance of official duties or persons holding a specific permit or waiver issued by the Division. A waiver does not remove liability if a fire occurs.
Penalties for violating fire restrictions
Violations of these restrictions are punishable under state law by fines of up to $1,000 and potential jail time of up to 6 months. County law enforcement will be responsible for enforcing these regulations.
