The Ogden High girls soccer team secured its eighth consecutive 3A semifinal ticket following an 8-0 mercy-rule victory over No. 7 Union on Saturday. The win marks the first time since the 2024 state title game that the No. 2 Tigers will face region opponent Morgan in the playoffs.
Madison Beus recorded a hat trick during the quarterfinal matchup to lead the Tigers, who entered the game with a 13-6 record. Other goal scorers for Ogden included Alondra Ayala, Gwenyth Aardema, Bryleigh Thomas, and Paisley Pierce.
Union, which entered the postseason with a 10-8 record, was unable to find an answer for the Tigers' offense, even after Ogden switched goalkeepers at the halftime break.
Ogden coach Alexis King noted that the team has maintained a high level of play despite battling significant illness throughout the season. The Tigers are the defending 3A champions and have secured six consecutive region titles since 2019.
In other postseason action, No. 6 Morgan advanced to the 3A semifinals by overcoming a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat No. 3 Carbon 3-1 on Saturday. Second-half goals from Amy Thomas, Kendall Peterson, and Saige Jones secured the road victory for the 11-6 Trojans.
The state semifinal matchup between Ogden and Morgan is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22, at 11:30 a.m. at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.
