Ohio State was ranked number one in the AP Top 25 rankings for the 2026-27 college football season in a notice updated August 17, 2026.
The rankings list placed Oregon at number two and Georgia at number three. Notre Dame followed in the fourth position, with Texas ranked fifth. Indiana was listed at number six, Miami (Fla.) at number seven, and Texas A&M at number eight. Ole Miss held the number nine spot, while Oklahoma was ranked tenth.
Other teams in the top 25 included LSU at number 11, Texas Tech at number 12, and Alabama at number 13. USC and BYU were tied for number 14. Michigan was ranked 16th, Washington 17th, Penn State 18th, SMU 19th, Tennessee 20th, Utah 21st, Iowa 22nd, Houston 23rd, Louisville 24th, and Missouri 25th.
Several teams received votes outside of the top 25, including Clemson, Florida, Boise State, Arizona, TCU, Navy, South Carolina, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, UNLV, Louisiana, New Mexico, Georgia Tech, Auburn, James Madison, Memphis, California, Liberty, Western Michigan, Tulane, and Virginia.
