The Weber River Watershed Council and Weber River Partnership held a joint meeting on July 14, 2026, to discuss watershed challenges and legislative updates. According to meeting minutes, the groups are working on a report for the Utah Watershed Council that includes specific legislative recommendations for presentation in August.
During the meeting, Jessica Reynolds and Rick Smith presented an update on the council's report to the Utah Watershed Council. The presentation addressed watershed challenges, opportunities, and solutions. Discussions included a proposal to update statutes regarding the term infrastructure to include natural infrastructure and watershed-based projects to allow for greater flexibility in future projects.
Regarding state funding, the council is working on a budget request for the legislature. The request includes funding for four full-time administrative staff members to serve several councils. Additionally, the group discussed leadership structure, noting vacant Vice Chair positions in both the Council and the Partnership. A proposed bylaw change would move members to liaison positions if they do not attend at least fifty percent of annual meetings.
The meeting also included a preview for the Confluence event scheduled for January 12, 2027. Planned themes include drought and water conservation, success stories, and Great Salt Lake legislative action. The agenda may feature speakers such as Jonathan Jennings, Jeff McQuillen, Lynn de Freitas, and Jon Parry.
In roundtable updates, it was noted that the River Helpers group in Ogden continues to perform monthly river clean-up events in Weber County. The group is currently working with Ogden City to increase the frequency of garbage can cleaning.
The next Weber River Partnership meeting is scheduled for August 11, 2026, via a virtual platform. The next joint meeting for the Weber River Watershed Council and Weber River Partnership is scheduled for September 8, 2026, at Weber Basin Water.
