Wellsville City released a newsletter on October 1 detailing several upcoming community activities and local government updates. The report includes information on seasonal maintenance, upcoming holiday closures, and a regional planning study for the Western Cache Corridor.
A local fire departments chili cookoff is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15, at Sam Patch Grocers from 4 to 7 p.m. Fire departments from Wellsville, Hyrum, Mendon, Paradise, and Cache County will participate. Fire personnel will be available around 4 p.m. to provide an educational experience for children with fire trucks, and the chili cookoff contest will begin at 6 p.m.
The Wellsville Community Trunk or Treat will be hosted by Sam Patch in its parking lot on Friday, Oct. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. Residents are invited to participate by decorating cars and attending the community activity. Additionally, the Wellsville City office and court will be closed on Monday, Oct. 12, in observance of Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day.
Waste Management will stop emptying green waste cans after Tuesday, Oct. 27. Residents are also advised to avoid raking leaves into storm drains to prevent pollution and localized flooding. Instead, residents should mulch or compost leaves and grass clippings to preserve nutrients for the landscape.
The Utah Department of Transportation, Cache County, and the Cache Metropolitan Planning Organization are partnering on the Western Cache Corridor Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study. This proactive planning effort aims to help Cache County and UDOT identify future transportation needs on the west side of the county to evaluate options before growth limits choices.
The city is also seeking support for the Veteran's Wreath Program to honor 395 veterans buried in the Wellsville cemetery. Individuals can sponsor a wreath for $17 or volunteer to help place wreaths during the Christmas season. National Wreaths Across America Day is scheduled for Dec. 19.
