President Dallin H. Oaks was set apart as the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 14, 2025. At the time of his call, he was serving as First Counselor in the First Presidency to President Russell M. Nelson and President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
President Oaks was sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on April 7, 1984. President Oaks is a graduate of BYU and The University of Chicago Law School. During his early professional career, he was a law clerk in the United States Supreme Court and practiced law in Chicago. From 1961 to 1971, he was a professor at The University of Chicago Law School. From 1971 to 1980, he was president of BYU. At the time of his call to the apostleship in 1984, President Oaks was serving as a justice of the Utah Supreme Court.
