Zion Williamson scored 23 points, all of which were recorded after halftime, to help the Pelicans overcome a 13-point deficit late in the third quarter. This victory marked the Pelicans' fourth straight win following a season-opening stretch of four consecutive losses. Dejounte Murray, returning from a three-game absence following the birth of a child, scored 20 points, while Derik Queen contributed 20 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter. Jeremiah Fears added 19 points for New Orleans. The Pelicans played without Trey Murphy III due to knee soreness.
Keyonte George scored 39 points for the Utah Jazz, marking his fifth 20-point game of the season. George hit consecutive three-pointers in the first minute of overtime to give Utah a 110-104 lead. However, the Pelicans responded with 14 straight points. Lauri Markkanen recorded 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Jazz, including two three-pointers in the final 1:36 of regulation to give Utah a 104-100 lead with 39 seconds remaining.
Regulation ended in a tie after Williamson's driving layup and Murray's free throws leveled the score with 6.4 seconds left, following a pull-up jumper by George over Williamson. During the overtime period, official Courtney Kirkland left the court with an apparent left leg injury, leaving two officials to officiate the remainder of the game.
The loss was the sixth consecutive defeat for the Utah Jazz. The Jazz's only victory this season occurred against New Orleans in Utah earlier in the season.
The Jazz are scheduled to visit Dallas for an NBA Cup West Group A game on Friday night. The Pelicans will host Minnesota in an NBA Cup West Group B match-up on Friday night.
