Miami has claimed the top spot in the latest Coaches Poll for the third consecutive week, according to a report published October 18. The Hurricanes reached the No. 1 ranking after remaining unbeaten with a controversial victory over Florida State involving an intercepted Hail Mary as time expired.
The Week 8 rankings saw BYU surge to No. 3 following a victory over previously second-ranked Notre Dame. The win propelled the Cougars to their highest standing this season, while the Fighting Irish fell six spots to No. 8.
Other notable shifts include Ohio State moving to No. 2 after defeating Indiana. The Buckeyes' victory snapped a 22-game winning streak for the Hoosiers in a matchup between top-5 teams. However, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin is expected to miss several weeks due to a shoulder injury.
Several high-ranking teams experienced losses on Saturday. Previously top-ranked Georgia fell to No. 4 after a 27-24 home loss to Auburn, ending a nine-game winning streak against the Tigers dating back to 2017.
Texas dropped out of the top 10 following a loss to Florida, previously holding the No. 1 ranking after a 4-0 start. Alabama also fell, dropping to No. 13 after a 26-10 loss to Tennessee. The Crimson Tide struggled offensively, totaling only 201 yards during the game.
The latest Coaches Poll rankings include new entries for Florida and Oregon. The poll also shows Utah at No. 9 and Tennessee at No. 11. Several teams, including Mississippi State and Oklahoma State, dropped out of the rankings this week.
