Timpanogoba Valley Theatre completed two summer production camps in Heber City, bringing the musical Disney's Newsies JR. to life through performances by local youth aged 12 to 18. The programs, directed by Roy Buttermore, featured a storyline centered on newsboys striking against unfair newspaper price increases in turn-of-the-century New York City.
Summer Camp A Schedule and Performances
The first production cycle, known as Camp A, held rehearsals from July 6 through July 18. The camp concluded with a series of performances on Friday, July 17, at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., followed by encore shows on Saturday, July 18, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Summer Camp B Schedule and Performances
A second session, designated as Camp B, ran from July 20 through August 1. This camp concluded with performances on Friday, July 31, at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and a final set of shows on Saturday, August 1, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Musical Production Details
The production utilized the 60-minute version of Disney's Newsies JR., a musical featuring a score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman with a book by Harvey Fierstein. The show is based on the 2012 Broadway musical and the 1992 film, following the character Jack Kelly as he rallies newsboys to fight for their rights.
Registration and Enrollment Process
Registration for the summer programs opened on April 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. and was conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. The Timpanogos Valley Theatre program limited each camp to 45 participants, with tuition costs set at $200 for the first child in a family and $185 for each additional child participating in the same camp.
Audition and Casting Procedures
To participate, youth performers submitted video auditions containing 16 to 32 bars of a musical theater song and a brief monologue or poem. According to Timpanogos Valley Theatre, all children who registered for the camps were cast in the production to ensure the experience of auditioning and performing.
