Major League Soccer has unveiled the schedule for its 2027 Sprint Season, a 14-game tournament that will serve as a transition for the league's move toward a summer-to-spring calendar. Real Salt Lake will begin its 23rd campaign on Sunday, February 21, with a road match against the Seattle Sounders FC.
A New Seasonal Format
The 2027 Sprint Season will consist of 14 regular-season matches for each club, featuring seven home games and seven away games. According to Major League Soccer, the matches will be played exclusively against intra-conference opponents. This format is intended to align the league with the global soccer calendar starting in July 2027.
Real Salt Lake's schedule includes an early-season stretch of four consecutive road contests. Following the February 21 opener in Seattle, the club will travel to face San Diego FC on Saturday, February 27, the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, March 6, and the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, March 13. The club's 2027 home opener is scheduled for Saturday, March 20, against FC Dallas at America First Field in Sandy.
Playoff and International Stakes
The 14-game sprint will determine qualification for the Audi 2027 MLS Cup Playoffs and carry international implications for the 2028 Concacaf Champions Cup and the 2028 Leagues Cup. The top eight teams from each conference will qualify for the postseason, which will follow a single-elimination bracket format.
Major League Soccer announced that the regular season will conclude on May 8, a date designated as Decision Day. The 2027 MLS Cup is scheduled to take place during Memorial Day Weekend in May.
RSL Home Schedule Details
Real Salt Lake will host five matches in a six-game span through April 17, with St. Louis, Kansas City, and Minnesota playing Saturday night games at America First Field during that period. The club will host LA Galaxy on Wednesday, April 7, and Houston Dynamo FC on May 8.
In addition to the Sprint Season, the club's 2027 schedule includes matches against Portland on April 24 and LAFC on April 21. The club's 19th season at America First Field will see the team compete for a spot in the postseason, as the club has reached the playoffs in seven of the last eight seasons.
Broadcasting and Media
The 2027 season will feature the return of Walmart Saturday Showdown and Sunday Night Soccer presented by Continental Tire, which provide enhanced production and immersive coverage of matchday events.
Every match of the 2027 Sprint Season will be available to viewers via Apple TV in more than 100 countries and regions. Subscribers can watch the matches alongside original series and other sports offerings, and Apple TV subscriptions will be included in full-season ticket packages for MLS clubs.
Club Postseason Legacy
Real Salt Lake enters the 2027 season amidst its ongoing 2026 push for the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. The club currently holds the longest active MLS Cup Playoff qualification streak in the Western Conference, having reached the postseason five seasons in a row.
