President Dallin H. Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints urged followers to deepen their faith and act on gospel truths during the October 2026 general conference. Speaking in Salt Lake City, the 94-year-old prophet invited listeners to come unto Christ and highlighted the significance of the Book of Mormon as a witness of God's love for all people.
A Call to Christ
During the morning session of the conference on October 4, 2026, President Oaks addressed a global audience through broadcasts in 70 languages. He noted that many people throughout the world are hungry for the teachings of Jesus Christ and his Savior. He encouraged listeners to believe in and act on the truths found within the Book of Mormon and to share those truths with others.
Addressing Doubt and Uncertainty
President Oaks expressed concern for those experiencing diminishing faith or facing personal struggles. He acknowledged that individuals often face questions, doubts, or conflicts between evolving scientific understandings and religious teachings. He stated that overcoming such uncertainty can be a lengthy process involving the building of faith and the strengthening of humility.
Strengthening Spiritual Foundations
To overcome spiritual challenges, President Oaks advised members to get closer to Jesus Christ by keeping the commandments and remaining true to existing covenants. He specifically encouraged the weekly renewal of covenants through the partaking of the sacrament and regular temple attendance. He also cautioned members not to let secular learning limit their spiritual horizons, noting that God expects people to learn through both scientific and spiritual methods.
Restored Doctrine and Authority
In his second address, delivered during the conclusion of the Sunday afternoon session on October 4, 2026, President Oaks emphasized the identity of the Church. He testified that the organization is named The Church of Jesus Christ because it contains the restored fullness of His doctrine and authority in these latter days. He encouraged attendees to concentrate their worship and unite their testimonies on the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Father's plan for eternal joy.
Global Divine Revelations
President Oaks provided a vision of God's reaching hand across various nations. He testified that the Lord will eventually cause inspired teachings given to His children in different nations to be brought forth for the benefit of all people. This includes revelations to the seed of Abraham and accounts regarding the visit of the resurrected Lord to the lost tribes of Israel.
Upcoming Temple Celebrations
As part of his closing remarks, President Oaks extended an invitation to participate in the Salt Lake Temple Celebration, which is scheduled to begin on April 5, 2027. This event will mark the first time the temple doors are open to the public since 1893. Additionally, he announced a new video series titled "Dedicate" that explores the Salt Lake Temple renovation through the perspectives of young adults. The first episode is expected to premiere worldwide in multiple languages following the conference.
