Water Canyon High School in Hildale, Utah, is set to receive a significant expansion that will add new classrooms, arts spaces, and community-focused facilities. The project is currently moving through its design and preconstruction phase.
The expansion will be divided into two sections. The north side will consist of a single-story addition featuring a larger commons area, a kitchen designed for hot meals, a new exterior entrance into the gym, a concession area, and additional restrooms.
The south side of the building will be two stories. The main floor is planned to house a new counseling center, a standard classroom, and a dedicated music room, while the second floor will add two classrooms and a theater room.
Washington County School District has awarded the construction manager/general contractor contract to Bud Mahas Construction. The project has a fixed limit of construction cost set at $12 million, though the final price may differ. Construction is anticipated to begin around March 2027, with completion targeted for around March 2029.
Principal Howell expressed enthusiasm for the project, calling the expansion an important investment in the future of the school community. Howell noted the addition will increase capacity and improve the learning environment, specifically highlighting the benefits of the new spaces for the arts. Howell also expressed gratitude to the Washington County School Board and District Administration for supporting and funding the project.
