The Salem City Council has scheduled a public hearing for Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, to consider several municipal matters, including a land annexation and proposed changes to zoning and accessory building regulations. The meeting is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Salem City Office located at 30 West 100 South.
Proposed Land Annexation
One of the primary items on the agenda involves the proposed Evan Thompson Annexation. According to a public hearing notice from the City of Salem, the council will consider incorporating this land into Salem City limits. The area slated for annexation is located approximately at the intersection of Woodland Hills Drive and 180 North.
Zoning Changes in Salem View Estates
In addition to the annexation request, the council will review a request for a zone change within the Salem View Estates. The City of Salem announced that the hearing will address a proposal to change the zoning for specific parcels from A-1 to R-15.
The rezoning request involves four distinct parcels identified as 29:062:0032, 29:062:0001, 29:062:0037, and 29:062:0035. This hearing is part of the city's ongoing administrative review of land use and residential density within the Salem View Estates area.
Accessory Building Regulations
The Salem City Council is also set to deliberate on amendments to municipal code regarding accessory structures. Specifically, the council will consider amending Title 14-1-060, Section 1.C, which governs accessory buildings.
The proposed amendment focuses on regulations concerning setbacks for accessory structures that are 200 square feet or less. Residents interested in the outcome of these regulatory changes can participate in the hearing scheduled for Oct. 21.
