Alpine City will host a wreath-laying ceremony at the Alpine City Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 10:00 a.m. to honor veterans. According to a November 4 statement, the event will emulate ceremonies held at Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C.
Scout Troop Unit 10G and the Alpine Youth Council will place seven wreaths during the ceremony. These wreaths represent each branch of the military and the POW/MIAs. The wreaths are provided by volunteer groups including veterans, truckers, and the Pony Express Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
As volunteers place the wreaths, they will say the name of each veteran to honor them individually and ensure their legacy of service and sacrifice is remembered. The ceremony is part of National Wreaths Across America Day, which includes similar ceremonies occurring simultaneously across the country.
Community members are welcome to bring their own wreath to lay following the ceremony. Individuals may also sponsor a veteran's wreath for $17 to be placed on a specific grave in the Alpine Cemetery or at another participating cemetery. Orders for sponsored wreaths must be placed at www.alpineut.gov/Wreaths by Dec. 1, 2026.
Those interested in volunteering for the event can contact Marilyn Thomsen at 801-787-8086.
