Ohio State junior guard John Mobley Jr. has been named to the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Top 20 Preseason Watch List. The annual award is presented by the Basketball Hall of Fame to highlight the top shooting guard in NCAA Division I men's college basketball.
The Jerry West Award is currently celebrating its 13th year. It is named after the late Class of 1980 Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player.
Fans can participate in fan voting during three rounds beginning on Friday, Oct. 30. The watch list of 20 players for the 2027 Jerry West Award will be narrowed to 10 players in February and then to five in March. The final five candidates will be presented to West's family and the Hall of Fame's selection committee in late March to determine the winner.
Mobley Jr., a native of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, enters the season following an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention performance in the 2025-26 season. During that period, he averaged 15.7 points and 2.8 assists per game while ranking among Big Ten leaders in three-pointers made per game and three-point percentage.
His 97 three-pointers from the previous season ranked fourth-most in a single season in Ohio State history. In his first tournament appearance, Mobley helped lead the Buckeyes to the NCAA Tournament and recorded 15 points and six assists against TCU.
Throughout two seasons in Columbus, Mobley Jr. has appeared in 63 games with 53 starts. He has averaged 14.3 points per game and has made 174 career three-pointers.
The Buckeyes are scheduled to open their regular season on Monday, Nov. 2, against No. 25 BYU in Salt Lake City.
