Dear Lakeview Families,
I hope you all have enjoyed this year’s longer summer! We all enjoyed the slower pace, but are now busy getting ready to welcome students back in two weeks!
First, I want to celebrate the outstanding work last year. In my twenty-plus years of education, I have never seen such tremendous growth in a single year. We increased our RISE scores in every area from the previous year: by 8% for ELA, 11% for math, and 9% for science. We also implemented four schoolwide expectations: Mindful, Safe, Engaged, and Accountable, with a system of Pokemon cards for positive rewards. This helped reduce office referrals by 67.4% from the previous school year. I am convinced that the key to our growth was our students’ commitment to owning their education, our teachers’ dedication to building self-empowered learners, and our families' partnership and support.
Pokémon is back with our 2026-27 school year theme: “If you don’t struggle, you won’t evolve!” We will keep emphasizing goal-setting, growth, and grit, as well as our schoolwide expectations of being mindful, safe, engaged, and accountable. Many of these lessons are taught through a weekly behavior and social-emotional lesson, which you can read more about here: English or Spanish. Our new PTA President for this school year is Andrea Speirs, who will continue the great work of last year’s president, Rachel Quarnberg. We are so grateful to each of them and hope you will get involved supporting PTA this year.
Our Back-to-School Open House for 1st to 6th grades will be Monday, August 17 from 5:00–7:00 PM at Lakeview. Come meet your teachers, tour the school, and get to know our PTA! Class assignments are now available on PowerSchool. When you get on Powerschool, PLEASE take the time to complete the Student Registration Annual Update for each of your children. The school district requires an update every year to verify that we have accurate information and permissions from parents. In terms of class placement, we are not making class changes at this time. Every teacher at Lakeview has much to offer and we have used many forms of data to carefully balance each class with students of all ability levels. Multiple people have been involved in making the decision, including last year’s teacher and their grade-level team, administrators, social worker/school psychologist, and our school behavior support team.

Fridays: Early dismissal at 1:10 PM for teacher collaboration
First Day for Kindergarten: Wednesday, August 26
Between August 19–21, each kindergartener should attend an individual assessment (sign up here).
Kindergarten Open House: Tuesday, August 25, 4:30–6:00 PM
August 26 & 27: Full days, 8:20 AM–2:55 PM
Fridays: Early dismissal at 1:05 PM for teacher collaboration
Please note that we do not ask parents to provide any school supplies for their students. Elementary schools do not charge school fees for the regular day program. Each class or grade may ask for a donation to fund activities that are not covered by the regular school budget. We encourage you to be supportive of the donation request if possible, but we emphasize that it is not required and your child will not be denied opportunities if a donation is not made.
