The Town of Junction has been placed under a boil order after severe flooding along the Cottonwood Fire burn scar contaminated the water system.
Officials with the Piute County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that water is no longer safe to drink following Tuesday's floods in City Creek and Junction.
According to officials, all water must be boiled before being used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, or food preparation.
Officials stated that the water remains safe to use for showering and flushing toilets.
To assist the public, the county is providing bottled water at the Junction Fire House and is working to obtain additional cases.
The boil order follows severe flooding Tuesday night that prompted a Flash Flood Warning. Emergency crews were seen sandbagging the area and diverting traffic off US 89 because of large debris fields located between Junction and Marysdale.
This flooding is part of several severe weather events in Beaver and Piute Counties over the past week. The combination of monsoonal moisture and the Cottonwood Fire burn scar has created dangerous conditions.
Earlier this week, storms caused contamination in Sevier County's water system for the Big Rock Candy Mountain area. Runoff and floods also impacted Beaver's water system and caused the Grove area to lose water access entirely.
It is currently unclear how long it will take to clear the water system in Junction.
