A passenger in a Honda Civic died Monday on U.S. 89 near Birdseye after a northbound driver attempted to pass another vehicle, according to a September 7 report from Gephardt Daily.
The driver crossed a double yellow traffic line, indicating a no-passing zone, and entered the lane for oncoming traffic. According to a Utah Highway Patrol statement, the Civic struck a Toyota Tacoma that was traveling in the opposite direction in the southbound lanes.
The passenger in the Civic sustained fatal injuries during the collision. Both drivers involved in the crash were transported to nearby hospitals by ambulance.
