The Emery County Sheriff's Search and Rescue crew responded to Little Wild Horse Canyon on Wednesday after receiving a dispatch call regarding a woman who had fallen and was unable to get up.
According to an Emery County Sheriff's Office news release, the injured person reported she could not put weight on her leg because her knee would pop out of place and slip when she attempted to do so.
Following the dispatch call, the Emery County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team was mobilized. Officials also coordinated with staff at Goblin Valley State Park, who organized a quick response team to enter the canyon.
Goblin Valley State Park staff reached the patient approximately 1.5 miles up the trail. After performing a medical assessment, they began preparing the woman to be carried out of the narrows.
Members of the Search and Rescue Team, DNR Law Enforcement, and Emery County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at the scene to assist in carrying the patient out of the canyon.
The patient was transported to the hospital by private vehicle and was reported to be in great spirits.
Sheriff Tyson noted that rescue personnel described the woman as strong and tough during the extraction. He stated that he spoke with the patient via telephone later that evening, noting she was thankful and appeared to be doing well.
Sheriff Tyson also expressed gratitude for the immediate response from the rescuers, specifically thanking the Goblin Valley staff and DNR Law Enforcement for their professional service.
