An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo during a vehicle stop in Houston on July 7, 2026. The incident occurred during a targeted enforcement operation intended to arrest an illegal alien.
According to Homeland Security, the incident began at approximately 6:50 AM CT when ICE law enforcement attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. The driver, identified as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, was an illegal alien from Mexico who attempted to evade arrest.
Reports indicate that Araujo rammed an ICE law enforcement vehicle and refused to follow multiple verbal commands. He allegedly weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer, which resulted in the officer firing his weapon in self-defense.
After being struck, Araujo was transported to a hospital where he subsequently passed away from his injuries.
The DHS-OIG is currently leading an investigation into the agent-involved shooting. Additionally, the FBI Houston is leading an investigation into the potential assault on a federal law enforcement officer.
