Sophomore guard Grace Hintz scored 22 points off the bench on Saturday, Nov. 7, to help Weber State women's basketball secure a 64-51 victory over Denver at the Dee Events Center in Ogden.
Hintz, who scored 16 points in the first half, shot 7 of 11 from the field and 6 of 6 from the foul line while contributing a team-high eight rebounds.
The Wildcats overcame an early 6-5 lead by Denver in the first quarter to build a 16-6 lead behind an 11-0 run. During the game, Montana transfer Draya Wacker and starting forward Paris Lauro each contributed 10 points.
Sydney White recorded eight points, six assists, and two steals, while Wacker hit a three-pointer at the end of the third quarter to extend the lead to 49-39. Denver's Victoria Baker led the Pioneers with 18 points, including 11-of-12 from the free-throw line, while Brooke Murrell added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Head coach Jenteal Jackson noted that while the team was defensively locked in to Denver's offense, they committed some errors through mental lapses and bad fouls at the rim. Despite the win, Weber State allowed Denver to finish 23 of 28 at the charity stripe.
Weber State held Denver to 26.5% shooting from the field, finishing at 13 of 49.
Hintz, who spent a year out of the rotation at Montana State before entering the transfer portal, also scored 17 points in the season-opening win over Westminster.
Weber State remains at home for two upcoming contests, hosting Houston Christian on Saturday, Nov. 14, and Northern New Mexico at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16.
