The Salt Lake County Civic Museum, in partnership with The Blocks, will present the Urban Plein Air exhibition at the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Theater in Salt Lake City. According to an October 8 statement, the new exhibition features 17 works by local artists and is scheduled for an opening reception on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m.
The Urban Plein Air exhibition showcases artworks from The Blocks summer Plein Air program. This program paired 17 local artists with iconic buildings in Downtown Salt Lake City to capture the city's character. While these pieces were originally displayed individually in various buildings, they are now united in this single exhibition.
Lucas Horns, The Blocks Program Director, stated that the artists turned the city's architectural icons into visual stories that are now brought together in the Civic Museum exhibition to celebrate the iconic character of Downtown. Kate Ithurralde, Salt Lake County Art in Public Places Manager, said the exhibition brings Salt Lake City to life by capturing its energy, architecture, and cultural identity through the eyes of local creators.
The Salt Lake County Civic Museum is an Art in Public Places project. In partnership with local nonprofits and government agencies, it hosts rotating exhibitions designed to celebrate the diverse culture, history, and shared stories of the community.
The Blocks is a joint initiative of Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County aimed at promoting the vibrancy of the creative community, facilitating collaborations, and activating underutilized spaces to establish downtown Salt Lake City as a premier cultural district of the Intermountain West.
The Urban Plein Air exhibition will remain on display at the Eccles Theater, located at 131 S. Main Street, through March 21, 2027.
