Utah State football secured a 21-10 victory over Troy on homecoming night at Maverik Stadium, according to a September 26 report. The win marked the Aggies' strongest performance of the season and their 11th victory in their last 15 homecoming games.
Graduate quarterback Grady Brosterhous led the offense with career-highs in both passing and rushing yards. He completed 18 of 28 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns while adding 89 rushing yards on 15 carries. Brosterhous' first touchdown came on a 57-yard pass to senior wide receiver Javon Robinson, who broke a tackle during the play. Robinson finished with four catches for 67 yards and one score.
Javen Jacobs contributed a six-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to extend the Aggie lead to 21-10. Jacobs also recorded 84 yards on 14 carries and two catches for 11 yards. Graduate wide receiver Eli Wood led the team in receiving with seven receptions for 96 yards and one touchdown.
The Aggie defense held Troy scoreless in the second half and recorded three interceptions. Senior safety Brevin Hamblin led the defense with 12 tackles and one interception. Junior cornerback D'Angelo Mayes contributed eight tackles, a pass breakup, and an interception at the 15-yard line during the first half. Sophomore safety David Kabongo recorded the third interception of the night to preserve the victory.
Troy's scoring was limited to a 13-yard touchdown pass from Goose Crowder to Howard Kinchen in the first half. The Trojans finished the game with a 2-2 record, while Utah State moved to 1-3.
During the game, senior linebacker Harrison Taggart was in attendance after exiting the previous week's game against Utah in an ambulance. He was wheeled out with the team captains at the start of the game.
Utah State football is scheduled to play its first-ever Pac-12 road contest against Boise State on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 p.m. (MT). The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
