Normal winter weather returned to northern Nevada following nearly two weeks of near-record high temperatures. An early-morning snow storm in Reno resulted in approximately 2 inches of snow, which delayed the start of Truckee Meadows Community College and slowed the Monday commute.
While traffic remained moving over Interstate 80, chains or snow tires were required over the Mount Rose Highway from Reno to Lake Tahoe and on US 395 from Reno north to the California border. A winter-weather advisory was in effect for central and northeast Nevada until 4 p.m. Monday. In south-central Utah, a winter-weather advisory remained in effect until 4 p.m. Tuesday, with up to 5 inches of snow possible above 5,000 feet.
A high wind advisory expired in southern Nevada, though gusts up to 40 mph were forecast for Monday afternoon along the Colorado River Valley.
