The Alpine Loop will be closed for the winter starting at 7 a.m. Monday, according to a October 29 report. The closure of State Route 92 will prevent drivers from traveling between American Fork Canyon and Provo Canyon through the mountain section.
The closure affects the mountain section between Pine Hollow in American Fork Canyon and Aspen Grove above Sundance. This is the first seasonal winter road closure of the year for UDOT.
UDOT stated that several high-elevation roads are closed each winter to ensure driver safety when heavy snow and rapidly changing conditions make travel hazardous. These roads remain closed through the winter, and reopening dates will depend on weather, snowpack, and maintenance needs.
Drivers may still reach Sundance via Provo Canyon and Tibble Fork Reservoir via American Fork Canyon, depending on weather and road conditions. Travelers are encouraged to check the UDOT Traffic website for current conditions and visit UDOT’s seasonal roads page for updates on closures.
