Skeletal human remains were discovered during two separate searches in a remote area northwest of Vernal, according to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office. The findings occurred during organized efforts to locate a missing person in a remote location.
The initial discovery took place on Sept. 27 during an organized search in the Little Mountain area, which is located approximately 15 miles northwest of Vernal. Law enforcement and assisting agencies were involved in the search at that time.
A second search conducted on Oct. 7 in the same area uncovered additional skeletal remains. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office stated that the remains found during the second search are believed to be linked to the remains discovered on Sept. 27.
During the search efforts, crews also located other items believed to be linked to the remains. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office reported that the remains will be sent to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner for examination.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Officials stated that more information will be released as it becomes available.
