BugFest, described as Utah’s largest celebration of insects, is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, according to a report published August 3.
The weekend-long festival aims to explore the role insects play in the world through a lineup of entomology experts and enthusiasts sharing their wisdom.
The event features several highlights, including expert speakers discussing the roles insects play across ecosystems and specimen displays showing Utah bugs and the plants they pollinate.
Activities include citizen science opportunities through a BugFest bioblitz to document invertebrates outside the Museum, as well as face painting and crafts. A unique feature of the festival is the Bug Bar, which serves specialized treats.
Various hands-on workshops are offered, including insect watercolor painting, vermicomposting, and making small scale insect sculptures and terrariums. Other workshops include screen printing for custom tote bags, butterfly pinning, and creating jewelry from beetle wings. While some workshops such as the tote bag and butterfly pinning sessions are listed as sold out, others remain open for registration.
BugFest admission is included with Museum admission, and the event is free for Museum Members.
