The BYU football program wrapped up 2026 Fall Camp on Tuesday in Provo, Utah, according to a August 25 report. During the final practice sessions, the defense was noted for its performance, marking the second consecutive media observation where the defense outperformed the offense.
During the media observation, the first-team offense, led by Bear Bachmeier, faced the first-team defense. Bachmeier completed passes to Jojo Phillips and Sione Moa, leading to a field goal attempt by Matthias Dunn, who converted from 45-50 yards. Later in the session, Bachmeier connected with his brother, Tiger Bachmeier, for a significant gain.
The defense remained disruptive throughout the practice, with several players making plays in the backfield, including Jake Clifton, Miles Hall, Cade Uluave, and Justin Kirkland. Additionally, Jayven Williams recorded an interception after a pass from Treyson Bourguet was tipped by Walker Lyons.
Wide receiver coach Fesi Sitake identified the top five in the wide receiver rotation as Jojo Phillips, Kyler Kasper, Legend Glasker, Reggie Frischknecht, and Tiger Bachmeier. Other players in the rotation include Tei Nacua, Terrance Saryon, and Jaron Pula, though Sitake noted Pula has been dealing with injuries during camp.
In injury updates, safety Faletau Satuala, who missed several weeks of camp, participated in drills on Tuesday. Head coach Kalani Sitake stated that Satuala remains on track to play in the season opener.
The kicking competition remains active, with Matthias Dunn and Brody Laga both performing well during media observation windows. Dunn successfully converted three field goals from 45+ yards, while Laga was 2 for 2.
Other notable developments included freshman running back Journee Tonga receiving second-team carries and defensive end Kendal Wall working his way into the two-deep rotation with first-team snaps. The most consistent starting offensive line rotation featured Paki Finau, Sonny Makasini, Bruce Mitchell, Kyle Sfarcioc, and Andrew Gentry.
The Cougars will turn their attention to the Utah Tech Trailblazers starting Wednesday as they prepare for the season kickoff.
