The Utah Wildlife Board approved several updates to upland game and turkey hunting regulations during its June 11 meeting, including new mandatory harvest reporting requirements for wild turkeys.
New Turkey Hunting Regulations
The approved changes include increasing the number of available turkey control permits from two to five and removing language that previously prohibited charging access fees or selling vouchers for those permits. Additionally, the board updated rules to allow multiple landowners to hunt adjacent properties using control permits and vouchers.
Changes to Buffer Zone Rules
New regulations also remove the requirement for a .25-mile buffer between commercial hunting areas and wildlife or waterfowl management areas. To address urban issues, the board added turkey to the urban deer rule, giving municipalities more options for trapping nuisance turkeys in city environments.
Weber County Fire Season Update
In Weber County, the Weber Fire District announced June 18 that the Division of Air Quality's spring open burn window is officially closed. The district noted that Utah's closed fire season began on June 1 and will continue through October 31, 2026, as the region faces a high wildfire risk.
Retirement of Deputy Chief Reed
The district also announced the retirement of Deputy Chief David Reed following a 36-year career in the fire service, which included 11 years with the Weber Fire District.
