Morgan Brown and Sarah Hansen of Sunset View Elementary have been recognized with the Provo Way Award for their commitment to students during their first year of teaching.
As new educators, Brown and Hansen demonstrated determination and positivity while navigating the challenges of the school year.
The two teachers took on significant responsibilities when their mentoring teacher, Michelle Fordham, had to be away during the initial weeks of school. During this time, Brown and Hansen maintained classroom environments and handled lesson planning to ensure progress continued.
Fordham stated that the two educators prepared alongside her and bravely entered the teaching profession without a mentor teacher present at the school throughout the day. She noted that they have been supportive and helpful while she navigated the beginning of the year from home, picking up slack within their grade level while maintaining a positive attitude.
Fordham expressed gratitude for her colleagues, describing them as a wonderful team and friends. The award recognizes Brown and Hansen for stepping up to support their team and making a difference for their students since the first day of school.
