The construction plan for the Center Street Bollard Project has been modified following contractor recommendations. The updated approach will shorten the project duration and reduce the impact on downtown businesses while improving the final product quality.
New Three-Day Construction Schedule
Rather than a three-phase project expected to last between four to six weeks with changing traffic patterns, the new plan involves closing Center Street for about three days. This closure will occur from late in the evening of May 31 through June 3, specifically between Main and 100 West.
Maintaining Access for Local Businesses
Initial asphalt cutting is scheduled for May 28 with limited traffic impact, after which normal traffic will resume until Sunday night. To maintain access to local shops and restaurants, sidewalks will remain open along with parking areas located to the north and south of Center Street.
Ensuring Uniform Concrete Color
The change in schedule also serves to ensure consistent color for the stamped concrete. According to the concrete provider, breaking the project into multiple phases would have caused significant variations in concrete colors.
City Officials Prioritize Downtown Impact
Logan City Public Works Director Paul Lindhart stated that the city is conscious of the impact on downtown businesses and chose a three-day disruption over several weeks of traffic chaos to maintain the professional look of the downtown area. Lindhart also expressed gratitude for the contractor's suggestion, noting that while the method involves some night work, the firms involved are committed to achieving the best results.
