With the recent passage of HB 81, which prohibits the addition of fluoride to public drinking water in Utah, the Division of Drinking Water has updated our fluoride webpage and created a new resource to help both water systems and customers.
What’s New:
Continued Oversight of Fluoride Monitoring
The updated webpage clarifies that HB 81 does not change existing monitoring requirements. Public water systems are still required to monitor and report naturally occurring fluoride levels. The Division will continue to oversee compliance with both the federal Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) and Secondary MCL for fluoride.
Interactive Fluoride Map
To support public understanding of naturally occurring fluoride levels, the Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) requested access to drinking water data. While this data is publicly available, the Division developed a new interactive map displaying fluoride test results from routine source monitoring submitted by public water systems.
The map was created to make fluoride data more accessible and to support both water systems and the public in understanding background fluoride levels. We have included a clear note that this data may not reflect fluoride levels at an individual customer’s tap and is not recommended for supplemental fluoride dosing.
We are encouraging customers to contact their water system directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information about fluoride in their drinking water.
