Pile burning season starts up around the Wasatch Back
As wildfire season comes to an end in Utah, conditions are optimal for authorities to start controlled burns — a mitigation method frequently used in Summit and Wasatch counties. “Pile burning is a good way for us to control fuel mitigation and fire behavior,” Wasatch Fire District Fire Warden Troy Morgan said.

New Park City hiking trail showcases land preservation work - Park Record
After three years of hard work, the Anchor Trees trail opened to the public with its own version of a ribbon cutting chainsawing through a downed log earlier this week. The hiker-only trail starts near the Montage Deer Valley and connects to the Bloods Lake trailhead, creating direct access from the Park City trail system to Bonanza Flat.

Park City leaders uninterested in creating business grants for Winter Olympics - Park Record
Park City will not make money available to businesses to assist in the private sector’s planning for the 2034 Winter Olympics. Mayor Ryan Dickey and the Park City Council on Thursday addressed a concept to provide funds in the years before the Games, but signaled they were not interested in moving forward with such a program.

Open house scheduled on plans to add lane to eastbound I-80 to U.S. 40 on-ramp
Upgrades are in the planning stages for the eastbound I-80 to U.S. 40 on-ramp to improve traffic flow and safety near Kimball Junction. The project will add a 12-foot eastbound merge lane from the Kimball Junction on-ramp through the interchange ramp and just beyond the U.S. 40 eastbound Silver Summit off-ramp.

Park City net-zero home wins 2026 national sustainability award
A Park City architect’s home has won a national sustainability award. The home was designed as a test case for green housing in a cold mountain climate. The home, designed by Wilson and built by PJ Builders, was completed in 2024, and honored for its innovative design this year.

MIDA looms large at climate-focused panel in Park City
Candidates vying to represent the Wasatch Back in the Utah Legislature called for reform Tuesday. Local control and representation were the bases of GOP Rep. Tiara Auxier's critique. There were no Box Elder representatives on the MIDA board, who was approving the project for the data center, she said.
