The Salt Lake Bees are set to honor the 1987 Salt Lake Trappers on Thursday, July 26. This celebration marks the 25th anniversary of the team's achievement of winning 29 consecutive games, a feat that remains the longest winning streak in American professional baseball history.
During the game against the Sacramento River Cats, the Bees will wear authentic Trappers uniforms.
The recognition of the Trappers will feature an on-field pregame ceremony. Trappers manager Jim Gilligan is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Additionally, select team members will be present on the concourse for autograph sessions throughout the game.
Longtime Fox 13 sports anchor and reporter Mike Runge, who previously held the position of public address announcer for the Trappers, will serve as the public address announcer for the matchup.
The Salt Lake Trappers were an independent Pioneer League team that operated in Salt Lake City from 1985 to 1992. The team's ownership included actor and comedian Bill Murray as well as current Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim owner Arte Moreno.
The Trappers won four league titles, including the 1987 championship. They played their home games at Derks Field, which was located on the site where Spring Mobile Ballpark currently stands.
