Proposed Project Overview

Zach Reynolds, representing the property owner, Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation, is seeking approval of zoning map and general plan amendments for the property located at approximately 1800 S 7200 W. The proposed zoning map amendment would expand the Landfill Overlay District (LO) to include the subject property within its boundaries. To maintain consistency with the Northwest Quadrant General Plan, the applicant is also requesting to update the property’s land use designation in the plan’s Future Land Use Map from Light Industrial to Landfill.

The property is currently vacant, and the applicant has indicated that these requests were submitted in anticipation of expanding the existing Construction Waste Management Landfill located directly to the north of the subject property at 7213 W California Ave. Landfills are conditionally permitted in the Landfill Overlay District. If the requested amendments are approved, the applicant must submit a conditional use petition for the proposed landfill expansion at the subject property.
