The South Sanpete School District celebrated significant student accomplishments during its regular board meeting on April 15, 2026. The session highlighted the achievements of Sterling Scholar winners from both Gunnison Valley High School and Manti High School, alongside students receiving technical education scholarships from Snow College.
At Gunnison Valley High School, regional Sterling Scholar runners-up included Emma Beard in English and Literature, Aaden Donaldson in Math, and Garrett Carter in Computer and Information Technology. Manti High School recognized winners Evelyn Olsen for Computer Science, Addison Howell for Family and Consumer Science, Porter Mikesell for Science, and Natalie Dowding for Speech and Drama, with Kyle Olson serving as a runner-up in Music and Benjamin Steinfeldt as a runner-up in Trade and Technical Education.
Additionally, eleven students were selected for the Snow College Six-County Technical Education Scholarship. The awards include four students from Manti High School and seven students from Gunnison Valley High School, each receiving a $1,000 scholarship applicable toward tuition waivers for technical education programs at Snow College.
The board also reviewed various administrative and financial items. Business matters included the approval of warrants totaling $3,079,142.53 and the adoption of a monthly budget report presented by Business Administrator Jake Hill. The board also approved the 2027-28 school calendar and updates to district policies regarding government data privacy and the use of copyrighted material.
Regarding student activities, the board reviewed the 2026-2027 fee schedule and spend plans for various high school and middle school programs. These plans outline maximum out-of-pocket costs for extracurriculars such as athletics, band, choir, and FFA.
The meeting also included recognition of recent athletic and academic successes, such as the Gunnison Valley Boys Swim Team's first place finish at the 2A State Championship and the Manti High School Speech and Debate Team's first place finish at the Region Championship. The board expressed appreciation for the dedication of coaches and advisors who support student growth.
