A kitten found in a Utah drain pipe was safely rescued using custom equipment, according to a October 15 report by 98 Rock Online.
West Valley City Government shared a video on Facebook showing a remote-controlled crawler helping guide the small kitten out of a drain pipe on Oct. 12.
The rescue began when the Storm Water Crew in the Public Works Department received a call regarding a kitten in a drain pipe on Monday, Oct. 12. Officials used a pole camera to locate the cat and attempted to coax it out, but the animal would not move.
To complete the rescue, officials utilized R2D2, a custom remote-controlled crawler equipped with lights and a live camera. While R2D2 is typically used for pipe inspections, officials stated the device's functions now include acting as a kitten rescuer.
The crawler gently nudged the kitten out of the pipe and into the arms of a crew member. The kitten did not appear to be injured during the process.
The incident was documented by West Valley City Government, which shared the footage of the operation on Facebook.
