A 30-day protest period is now underway for the BLM Utah 2026 Third Quarter Competitive Oil and Gas Lease Sale Environmental Assessment. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah State Office is moving forward with a plan to offer 35 parcels, covering a total of 34,596.13 acres, on public lands managed by the Vernal and Moab Field Offices.
The proposed lease sale involves parcels located within Emery, Grand, and Uintah Counties. The protest period began on July 21, 2026, and is scheduled to end on August 21, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. MT.
According to the BLM, protests regarding the offered parcels must be submitted via hand delivery, mailed in hardcopy form, or sent by email to blm_ut_lease_sales@blm.gov. For those submitting via email, the subject line must read: “Quarter 3, 2026 Protest.” All protests must be received by the BLM Utah State Office no later than the August 21 deadline.
The environmental assessment for this project, identified as DOI-BLM-UT-0000-2026-0005-EA, follows previous stages including a public scoping period and a public comment period that concluded in June 2026. The lead office for this action is the Utah State Office, involving the Moab and Vernal Field Offices.
