Oklahoma City noise rock quartet Chat Pile has announced their sophomore full-length album, titled Cool World. The record is scheduled for release via The Flenser on October 11, 2024.
According to vocalist Raygun Busch, Cool World expands the thematic scope of the band's previous work from a micro to a macro scale. Busch stated the album explores thoughts regarding disasters occurring both at home and abroad and how they affect one another. He described the album as being about the price at which Americans eat sugar.
The album features ten tracks and marks the first time the band has used an outside person for mixing duties. Ben Greenberg of Uniform handled the mixing, which the band noted amplifies their outsider and folk-art edge.
Bassist Stin stated that the band intended to use the follow-up to God's Country as an opportunity to challenge their creative comfort zones and stretch the definition of their sound beyond noise rock. The album incorporates various genre stylings, including metal grooves and gazy, goth-tinged dirges.
Musically, the record explores themes of violence through tracks such as Camcorder, Tape, Shame, and The New World. The band's work is described as a depiction of how atrocities have become standard parts of modern existence.
