KUER 90.1 announced that Cristy Meiners has been appointed as the station manager for the NPR member station, following her period of service as interim station manager which began in May 2021. The appointment aims to center the station's public service mission through local and national programming.
New Leadership Mandate
Meiners, who previously served as the executive producer for the RadioWest program, will oversee all national, regional, and local news, arts, and cultural programming. Her role also includes navigating new methods for creating local content across KUER's various media platforms.
In addition to programming oversight, the station's leadership tasked Meiners with leading audience development efforts. KUER Executive Director Maria O’Mara stated that attracting new and diverse audiences is central to the station's future success.
Professional Background
According to an announcement from the University of Utah, Meiners expressed enthusiasm for her permanent role, stating she is ready to engage in "listening, learning—and digging into the work" to serve Utah and the West. O'Mara noted her confidence in Meiners' ability to lead during this period in the station's history.
Meiners brings a background in both national and local journalism to the position. Her career included an internship at NPR’s Arts Desk in Washington, D.C., and eight years producing The Bob Edwards Show and Bob Edwards Weekend for SiriusXM Satellite Radio.
Station Impact and Programming
Before joining the RadioWest team in 2019, Meiners served as the arts and entertainment editor at The Deseret News. Her transition to station manager follows her time managing operations, programming, and news for KUER, which reaches approximately 175,000 Utah residents weekly.
KUER's RadioWest program, hosted by Doug Fabrizio, continues its tradition of exploring deep topics, with recent July 2026 episodes covering subjects such as linguistic accents, the health benefits of heat, and the adoption industry in Utah.
