Weber State football will open its 2027 season with a home conference game against Montana, according to a October 28 report. This marks the first time in 31 years the program has opened a season with a home conference matchup, and it is the first time the team will host Montana in a season opener.
Montana is scheduled to visit Ogden on Aug. 28 for the season opener for both teams. The announcement comes via the 2027 league schedule released by the Big Sky Conference on Tuesday.
The Big Sky will be in its second year using a nine-game schedule after FCS leaders voted to permanently increase the regular season to 12 games. Due to the imbalanced nature of the nine-game conference schedule, the Montana game will be one of four Big Sky home games for the Wildcats in 2027.
The Wildcats' other scheduled Big Sky home games for 2027 include Northern Arizona on Oct. 2, Cal Poly on Oct. 23, and Northern Colorado on Nov. 6.
Weber State's road schedule for the 2027 season includes trips to Idaho State on Sept. 25, Eastern Washington on Oct. 9, Utah Tech on Oct. 16, Portland State on Oct. 30, and Southern Utah on Nov. 13.
The 13-team Big Sky schedule means Weber State will not face Idaho, Montana State, or UC Davis next season.
Weber State is 5-2 in its last seven matchups against Montana. The two teams are rarely scheduled to face one another in consecutive seasons, with 2024 and 2025 being the only consecutive pairings in the last 11 years. The teams were not scheduled to play during the 2026 season.
The only nonconference game currently announced for Weber State is scheduled for Sept. 4 at BYU. The Wildcats currently have open dates on Sept. 11, Sept. 18, and Nov. 20 to add two more games. The team's Big Sky bye week occurs at the very end of the schedule.
With four home games and six road games currently on the schedule, the remaining nonconference additions will determine the final home-road balance for the Wildcats.
